Ben’s Chili, DC’s Answer to Boog’s BBQ?
By Jamie Mottram | December 21, 2007
Of the 11 Major League stadiums I’ve been to,* the best grubbin’s have been a sandwich and sides at Boog’s Barbecue on Eutaw St. beyond the rightfield wall at Camden Yards. ESPN even ranked it No. 1 a few years ago. That may be set to change though. Via DCist:
“[The Washington Post’s Marc] Fisher says Ben’s Chili Bowl is going to have an outpost in the new Nationals Stadium. Unfortunately though, co-owner Kamal Ali tells DCist that the Ben’s stand at the stadium is far from a done deal.
“We are in a good faith conversation with them, but it would be premature to say it’s definitely happening. There is no signed contract yet,” Ali said.
For those unfamiliar, the Chili Bowl has been a DC institution for nearly 50 years and specializes in chili dogs, chili burgers, chili fries, etc. It also used to be a hangout for guys like Miles Davis, Martin Luther King Jr. and Bill Cosby (who even has a favorite item on the menu).
So, yeah, this needs to happen, for the betterment the ballpark and the detriment of our wastelines. Hopefully the Lerners and Ali can agree without Da Meat Hook stepping in.
* Those would be Memorial, Camden, RFK, Shea, Yankee, Veterans, PNC, Fenway, Dodger, Petco and Anaheim. The Dodger Dog and PNC sausage are also on the shortlist of best foodstuffs. The worst? Those Yankee Stadium hot dogs served on a piece of bread instead of a bun. WTF is that?

That would be fucking amazing!
But I’m not sure anything can top the food at PNC. Their sausage is even better than Boog’s finest brisket.

PNC is for whores.

The “Smitter” at the Phillies park is mouth watering. Every time I have chosen Boogs BBQ it was just OK. I need to give it another shot.
What about some Five Guys at the new Nats Park? Maybe some Ethnic food. Why just stop at Bens?
What is the price over/under line for Chili Cheese Fries? 8 bucks?

I think you are about right about the cost on the chili cheese fries.
Looks like I’ll be buying some Smack bars to tide me over next time I’m back home.
P.S. - Boog Powell can’t feel his face.

One time, at Fed Ex, I had to take a movement, and it seemed that someone outlined the toilet seat with Bens Famous Chili.
I opted for pooping in a sink and then swiftly blamed the first Seattle fan I saw.

Jamie, when you see hot dogs like that at Yankee Stadium? I’ve never come across that at the stadium before.

Chilli cheese 1/2 smoke.
It’s all about the 1/2 smoke.

thesportshernia, every time I’ve gotten a dog at Yankee Stadium (the last time was ‘03, I think) the dog has come on a bun that’s more like a slice of white bread than a bun. The dog tastes good, but the bun’s gotta go.

That would be hardcore. Seriously. I love that place. I always make sure to go when I go to Camden.

The “Schimitter” at CBP crushes all. I heard this year they are serving them with defibrilators.
