Skins Start Ten Players on Defense
By Chris Mottram | December 2, 2007
The Redskins played sans free safety on their first defensive play against the Bills today in honor of Sean Taylor. It was a nice gesture. It would’ve been nicer if the Bills had played along and taken a knee or something instead of running for 25 yards:

I’m pretty sure they did play along by not throwing towards the open half of the field.

I didn’t get this tribute, although it does teach the lesson that, on any given play, Taylor was worth 25 yards to the Redskins defense.

I’m pretty sure Gibbs got the idea from Carroll/USC’s tribute to Mario Danelo. Though that made sense being on a PAT and non-play.

What do you mean you “didn’t get this tribute”? It’s pretty straight forward, no?
289, I was being sarcastic with the whole “wish they’d played along” thing. It was, after all, a football game. I didn’t expect them to take a knee or something.

My bad but I’ve read several pieces today where people believed that we should have taken a knee.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing earlier – maybe not a knee, but how about a run up the gut and not off-tackle?
On the other hand, I also think that Sean Taylor would want whatever was done in his honor to be done at full speed and with as much contact as possible.

What’s the difference between the two runs? It’s not like a running play is targeted at a safety. Especially when it’s a 4th string rookie RB from Coe College.

I understood it, but, like the memorial fund being for Taylor’s daughter rather than, say, children of murder victims in financial need, I didn’t agree with it. But if it helped his teammates heal, good for them.

I kinda think Taylor would’ve preferred they remembered him by laying dude out, not giving up a first down.

Interesting, from Redskins Insider:
Gibbs told us he did not have a problem with Williams doing it – though you got the strong impression he would have preferred to have known before hand – and when asked if Gibbs was okay with the move Williams said: “Sure he is. Yep.”

Imagine if they had given up a play-action bomb on the play?

I’m with you SVP, only I’m thinking flea flicker

I am not sure if anyone saw the Hawaii-Washington game on Saturday night, but since I live on the West Coast I was able to watch it. But Hawaii had “ST” stickers on their helmet. Sean Taylor had no affiliation with Hawaii besides showing them what Boom King means, but those kids showed what class is.

Or for another take on the story.
