George Mason Hoops Is About to Go Off
By Jamie Mottram | December 1, 2007
In their last four games, the Patriots have beaten Michael Beasley Kansas State, lost a close one to Villanova, beat South Carolina and, most recently, whooped CAA stablemate Drexel by 47. Yeah, they beat a decent team by 47. So maybe this week they’ll get at least one vote in the USA Today/ESPN Poll?
For perspective, Mason was the popular preseason pick to win their strong mid-major conference, they’re No. 2 in the Atlantic 11 — ahead of UVA and Maryland — and CAA authority Michael Litos sees them starting 15-1. That would turn some heads, but I’ll leave the predictions to others as I’m tired of cursing our favorite teams (see: Skins, see also: Caps and Wiz).
Either way, Jim Larranaga’s kids seem to be out of the Final Four-induced hangover that plagued them for most of last season and just might find themselves nationally ranked soon enough.
Update: My unreal jinx streak continues as Mason loses to East Carolina the day after this post was made.
