Sunday, November 25th, 2007It’s been a strange season for the ice-breaking, goal-shaking Washington Capitals. They started off 3-0 with people talking playoffs. Then they went 3-14-1 and fired their coach on Thanksgiving. Now they’ve won two in a row under fiery first-timer Bruce Boudreau. Whether or not the new guy is the solution remains to be seen, but [...]
N.C. State Penalized 15 Yards for
‘Giving Him the Business’
Saturday, November 24th, 2007
Thanks to commenter Elisabeth for providing video of the hilarious penalty call from today’s Maryland game:
I’m not sure where you’d find the section in the rulebook regarding giving others the business, but there is precedent for making such a call.
Update: The commenters are on fire as 289 shares video of the precedent.
UK’s Brooks Appreciates a Great Catch
Saturday, November 24th, 2007Is the SEC the greatest conference/league in the history of conferences/leagues? Probably not. I’m partial to the Big Ten. Punting is just so exciting. But the southeastern part of the nation was pretty god damn awesome this weekend. It was highlighted by today’s Tennessee-Kentucky game, which featured an amazing catch to keep the Vols alive [...]
The Turtles Are Goin’ Bowling, Bitches
Saturday, November 24th, 2007Despite NC State being nowhere near the top 10, Maryland stomped ‘em for win No. 6*, bowl eligibility and a possible New Year’s Eve date with Boise St.
In other college football news, my alma mater lost by one to Appalachian St. in the I-AA FCS Playoffs, meaning they’re one point better than Michigan.
* Props to [...]
Gilbert Goes Down, Our Hearts Go On
Wednesday, November 21st, 2007Arenas re-tore his meniscus, had surgery today and will be out for three months. I have no words, but Wizznutzz encapsulates our innermost thoughts and feelings.
Three months from now is late-February. IF Caron and Antawn stay healthy, the Wizards can hang around .500, right? And, IF that happens, Gil can swoop in and play hero [...]
Nick Young Dunks Can’t Stop Won’t Stop
Wednesday, November 21st, 2007I don’t know that we’ll post every time NY throws down, but we will every time there’s photo and/or video evidence of how sweet it is. This “not spectacular, but nice”* one comes courtesy of Ned Dishman, Getty Images.
As for the campaign to get Mr. Young into the dunk contest, those on board now include [...]
Wednesday’s Basically Top Five Links
Wednesday, November 21st, 2007Here are your Basically Top Five national sports blog links of the day. These usually get posted Monday through Friday around 9 a.m. ET, but I may take the holiday to ween myself off of the blog game. If that’s the case, have a happy Thanksgiving, everybody, and enjoy all the football. And food and [...]
Bulletproof, Wiz Get One for the Thumb
Tuesday, November 20th, 2007It wasn’t all Andray Blatche in the easy win over Philly, but he scored a personal best 26 (on 12-for-14 shooting) as the Wiz won their fifth straight. And perhaps “one for the thumb” is a bit much as these are early wins against poor teams, but we’re talking about the maligned Wizards here; a [...]
This Is What You’d Call the ‘Silver Lining’
Tuesday, November 20th, 2007Gist underperformed last night (again), going 3-for-11 for seven points with just three rebounds. In fact, the entire Maryland team rebounded like a bunch of pussies. Plus, no one on this team can score (okay, maybe Vasquez) and the Terps are in a world of trouble be straight merkin’ bamas:
Appalachian State Is Extremely Talented
Tuesday, November 20th, 2007If someone ever decides to start a Poon of the Southern Conference site, it might have to start and end with this App State co-ed, brought to you courtesy of Southern Fried Football:
The south is just ridiculous. I mean, App State is in f’ing Boone, North Carolina. Boone! And they’re producing girls that look like [...]
