Former Friends Were Out to Get Taylor

    By Chris Mottram | November 29, 2007

With no inside information whatsoever — other than the fact that he was close to Taylor — Arizona’s Antrel Rolle is convinced that whoever killed Taylor was in his house to do just that:

“They say it was a burglary. It absolutely was not a burglary. Down South, where we’re from, there were many people targeting Sean, a lot of jealousy, a lot of angry people.” … Rolle said many former “friends” had it in for Taylor. … “He really didn’t say too much, but I know he lived his life pretty much scared every day of his life when he was down in Miami because those people were targeting him. At least, he’s got peace now.”

Really, I don’t have a hard time believing that there were people out to get Sean, or that this was a premeditated murder, rather than a burglary attempt. It is, however, difficult to believe Taylor was scared for his life when he was in Miami. If that was the case, why would he ever be in Miami? Was he so attached to Dade County that he couldn’t move out of the state if he felt like he was in danger? Further, if he knew people were out to get him, it’s doubtful he’d be so irresponsible as to stay in that area with his wife-to-be and daughter, putting both of their lives in danger as well.

As much as I’d love to trust Antrel’s opinions from the other side of the country, I’ll leave this one up to the police.

Also, I’m assuming Taylor had a few bucks. If you’re really scared for your life/paranoid, why not install the world’s greatest security system and/or live in a gated community with cameras all over your house?

I read somewhere that the home phone lines were dead and possibly clipped. Would that not be a sign of premeditation? The cops are still saying burgalry to the press. Security System seems like a no brainer is retrospect.

Mac, that turned out to be false.

Chris, my initial reaction was the same, why did he still live in Miami? Why didn’t he up his security? Then again sometimes folks don’t think like that, for some moving away from they have lived their entire lives is a complete foreign concept to them.

I will say this though, I think I buy what Rolle is selling more then anything else I’ve seen or heard this week.

Maybe by moving into a nicer area he thought that he was getting away from it. Sleeping with a machete kind of gives credence to the belief that he was still scared. You forget that those Miami guys all still live in Miami. They all go back there to train in the off season. They’re a big family. Moving away from the place that you’ve spent the first 24 years of your life can be even scarier.

Everyone has said how Taylor was maturing and changing his life for the better. Unfortunately any enemy that he made in the past wasn’t going to do the same. And even some of those he used to consider “friends” might turn on him for getting away from that life.

i wish if rolle were going to go there, he’d have done so with some more specific information. who was out to get him? why? what had he done, or why did they have an issue with him?

this might well just be a case of a guy trying to make some sense out of the death of his friend.

Um, if I were Rolle, I probably wouldn’t be naming specific names, assuming this is true. That would seem like a fairly horrible idea.

I don’t think Rolle knows details about this tragedy, but I do think that Rolle knows the kind of people that Taylor hung around, and the kind of people that would want to get him.

It’s one of the things that growing up in the hood grants you; you know who messes with you and who doesn’t. And so does everyone else.

A bit sensationalist, but like someone else said, I buy this more than the random burglary gone wrong thing. Something just seems off about the whole thing.

I think Taylor moved up to DC with an entourage of like 2 or 3 guys and called them his managers or agents. When he realized they were just spending his money he fired them. Those are probably the guys that he was paranoid about.

Sorry to get off topic here, but has anyone seen some of the Eagle fan responses to this tragedy?

My hatred towards Eagle fans, I thought, was as high as it can get.

      It just fucking doubled.

I personally will do something about this.
