Melvin Mora Is Getting Awfully Indignant

    By Jamie Mottram | November 10, 2007

the-mora-five.jpgBack when he was hitting .340 and having quintuplets with his wife, I liked Melvin Mora. The past couple of seasons have not been so kind, however, and it may be time for the O’s to part ways with their third baseman, so says the babies’ daddy himself:

“I’ve been busting my butt for seven years in the organization. I’m a two-time All-Star, I’ve won a Silver Slugger [award]. I don’t deserve [sitting in September for call-up Scott Moore]. If I have to take that crap, I’d rather go somewhere else.”

Follow the link for more righteous indignation, including a defense of Daniel Cabrera (5.55 ERA this summer) and Mora labeling himself one of the best third basemen in Major League Baseball. Really?!

In reality, he’s a .270, 15-HR hitter who doesn’t walk much and hasn’t been above-average since ‘05. And, just off the top, I’d rather have any of these guys at the hot corner: Miguel Cabrera, Alex Rodriguez, Chipper Jones, Aramis Ramirez, Mike Lowell, Ryan Braun, David Wright, Ryan Zimmerman, Eric Chavez, Adrian Beltre, Scott Rolen and Troy Glaus. That’s a dozen third basemen right there, and I bet I’m missing a few.

So happy trails to Mr. Mora, so long as Andy MacPhail finds a taker and Mora approves the deal. Oh, you didn’t know he has a no-trade clause? Of course he does. [Declining players] and [bad contracts], that’s what [Baltimore] does!

(Tip of the hat to Camden Chat, where this is well-received news.)

He’s just warming up the mike for Tejada this offseason.

If they trade both Tejada and Mora it will be the best thing that’s happened to the O’s since they traded Curt Schilling and Pete Harnish for Glenn Davis. Wait, that wasn’t good either. Nevermind. It will just be the best thing that’s happened to the O’s.

Tejada without roids = joke. Mora is horribly, horribly overrated. Apparently by himself too.
