Mittens Gracefully Soars For First Down
By Chris Mottram | November 9, 2007
Being in Charlotte, I guess I’m past-due for a Panthers post. But really, I just don’t care about that team. So much so that I was just offered free tickets to the game on Sunday, and turned them down because Skins-Eagles is this week. I guess that actually says more about my loyalty to D.C hatred for Philly.
Anyway, someone named David Carr has been quarterbacking Carolina between manicures and injuries. I believe 99% of the time, he’s been bad all the time. So much so that at the bar on Sunday, the fans cheered when he got hurt (again). But sometimes, from shit grows a rose, as this truly amazing play demonstrates:
For the record, me thinks those black mittens are not nearly dainty enough. I realize it’s after Labor Day, but I think Carr needs to stick with the white gloves.
For the record, the sequel: I’ve been meaning to link up the new Mister Mittens blog (run by the Brahsome mastermind) for awhile now. It’s a fantastic site. Mostly because it has “Mister” in the title.

He should have gotten up and kept on running.

Seriously, is a flip/dive the same as a slide in that once he’s down he’s down, regardless of being touched? Because if not, that was a fumble, only making this play more bizarre.

QBs are only down without being touched if the slide feet-first (you know, the same way you came out of the womb). This was no feet-first slide. Thus, I do believe it should’ve been a fumble.

Yup, that post first down flex/fumble sums up the Mittens era nicely.
