Derrick Rose Can Bring Memphis Back From the Brink of Death

    By Chris Mottram | November 6, 2007

When you’re considered the top-ranked freshman guard in the country, having your NCAA debut contain a reverse layup, put-back dunk, an unbelievable block, and a long three is probably a decent way to announce your presence. Click to watch Memphis’ Derrick Rose, and enjoy his one season in college hoops:

It would seem that Coach Cal hearts Rose already, as he clearly didn’t overstate things at all after the game:

“When we were dying, he scored,” Memphis coach John Calipari said. “We were dying, he blocks a shot. We were dying, he goes in there and makes a play.”

Really? You were “dying” no less than three seperate times against Tennessee-Martin? In that case, their match-up against O.J. Mayo and USC in less than a month could be a massacre. No man will come out alive. Except for Abdoulaye N’diaye. He ain’t goin’ out like that.

I was gonna say, this post reminds me of the one I made a year ago after watching Durant for the first time.

And if Gordon’s better than this kid, it’s gonna be a lot of fun to watch Indiana this year.

I’ll agree with R’s sentiments on Gordon being better than Derrick Rose. Rose is a better passer, but Gordon is not far behind in that category. As far as athleticism and scoring ability, Gordon is far superior.

And the Washington Post seems to agree, too.
