Curt Schilling, an All-Time (Orioles) Great
By Jamie Mottram | October 26, 2007
There was a fine moment during Game 2 of the World Series that made me pause and soak in the sporting goodness of it all. Terry Francona had just removed Curt Schilling with one out in the sixth inning, hanging onto a 2-1 lead. It very well may have been the 40 year-old’s last exit from Fenway, and he doffed his cap to acknowledge the faithful who’ve been so good to him over the past four seasons. It was then, as he was putting his lid back over thinning hair, that he raised it skyward again, sending the ballpark into a frenzy of really loud appreciation.
Deadspin’s Will Leitch captures the essence of this and much more in this morning’s New York Times piece, and he says it much better than I ever could, so go read it. But know this, Boston: Curtis Montague* Schilling was, is and forever will be a Baltimore Oriole with a filthy little mustache.
* Yeah, that’s his real middle name. I learned it from reading Yahoo’s wiz bang World Series blog, Rox & Sox Blogtoberfest.

So that’s how he learned to be a pithy douche.
Straight from the King of all Douches, Angelos.
