The Impartial Fan’s Guide to the LCS
By Jamie Mottram | October 11, 2007
Three out of four teams we wanted to win actually won their Divisional Series. That said, those series — three sweeps and a four-gamer — were as bad in their brevity as those commercials — starring Frank Caliendo, Kenny Lofton and Dane Cook — were fatal in their frequency. Really, all I can remember is A-Rod’s bug spray technique, LeBron’s turncoat fanaticism and a radio lady’s tears of sadness.
Those all have to do with the Yankees, and, thankfully, the Yankees are dead. For this year, at least. And for guys like us, non-fans of the remaining foursome, here’s the guide to who we should be rooting for. Impartially, of course.
Red Sox-Indians ALCS: Even though Boston beats Baltimore down all the time, this is a likable group. The thing is, they already got theirs. It’s Cleveland’s time now, and this is a helluva team to get behind, especially that Grady Sizemore. Who to root for: Cleveland.
Diamondbacks-Rockies NLCS: Brandon Webb is a Kentucky bred stallion with an Orel Hershiser-in-’88 thing going on, but Arizona already won one World Series in its marginal existence. Let’s not see them go the way of the Marlin and win it twice. Plus, I enjoy watching Clint Hurdle’s face progressively turn Rockies purple. Who to root for: Colorado.
Rockies-Indians World Series: By this point, Colorado will probably have won 22 of 23 or some such, but that still doesn’t make them any less of a star-less expansion team. Let’s go for the long suffering Indians, with Mssrs. October in Sabathia, Carmona, Hafner, Lofton and especially Sizemore. Who to root for: Cleveland.

Perhaps Game 1 of Sox/Indians can end in a tie because the time limit is up.

Yes, Chris, I’m a member of the sisterhood: http://www.gradysladies.com/
And GTB, if the ALCS is true to our softball matchup’s form, let’s hope that Cleveland is my team.

I just can’t bring myself to root for an Indians team without Albert Belle and Manny.
I don’t know why, but I can’t.
