    Padres-Rockies Was the Perfect Game

    By Chris Mottram | October 2, 2007

Thank god for baseball. While ESPN was stuck in a four hour suck-off of Randy Moss and Tom Brady, there was one of the greatest games in the history of sport happening on TBS. Certainly the best single sporting event since the Boise State-Oklahoma game. The game had a little bit of everything (expect a HD broadcast), and in the end, Brian Giles borrowed Johnny Damon’s arm and allowed should-be MVP Matt Holliday to score a “controversial” game-winning run (1:30 mark):

Although it doesn’t appear that Holliday touched the plate, you cannot see the reverse angle where umpire Tim McClellan is standing. I’m willing to concede the benefit of the doubt to the Rockies for a come-from-behind win in the bottom of the 13th against the greatest closer of all time.

And if nothing else, at least the call at the plate got Timmy Kurkjian’s voice to reach an octave we haven’t heard since the Rangers scored 30 runs.

Since MNF was so bad, I flipped around searching for this game and couldn’t find it. Stupid TBS! How was their broadcast, btw?

Well, Cal Ripken is their in-studio analyst, so it was f’ing awesome.

You best locate TBS on your channel-changer because all the games Wed and Thur are on that shiz.

I’m aware of TBS’ location on the dial, I’d just forgotten that they were carrying a lot of the playoff games.

And they should just let Cal call the game from the studio … and buy the Orioles.

Damn you, Cox Communications. You are NOT the leader in the digital age!

Cal aside, the on-air broadcasters put me to sleep (literally)

So this is what you dudes missed “Heroes” for?

And I thought the Mottrams had a sense of culture.

I have a feeling I’m really missing out by not watching Heroes. But thank god I’m up to speed on The Hills and The Bachelor! Seriously.

Technologically advanced cities like Philadelphia have TBS HD on Comcast.

If you didn’t watch it on HD, you most likely missed out on the fan that sat behind home plate with a dog in a Rockies T-Shirt resting on his 350 lb. frame the entire game. He was just as entertaining as the baseball being played.

I totally saw that fan w/ the dog. I considered screen grabbing it for this post. Hilarious.

And did you see the blonde with the glasses behind the Rox dugout? Pretty nice.
