For O’s, Trebelhorn Is Trembley’s Fall Guy

    By Chris Mottram | October 1, 2007

The last month or so of the Orioles season was a complete and total disaster. Dave Trembley was officially named the team’s manager for 2008 on August 22. From that point on, the O’s went 11-28, including the 30-run game against Texas. So what’s the first thing Trembley does a day after the ‘07 slaughtering finally ends? Fire bench coach Tom Trebelhorn, of course.

Yeah, it was totally the bench coach’s fault. After being with the O’s for 12 seasons, Trebelhorn gets the boot. Naturally, Trembley gave the classic we’re “going in another direction” excuse for the firing. As for Trebelhorn, he’s just gonna go cold kick it with the seagulls:

“I don’t suspect there will be a lot of openings. And I’m 60 years old. We’ll see. I’ve got a beach house I want to buy in Oregon. I might … just head up to Oregon and hit fungos to the sea gulls.”

Go enjoy the Pacific Northwest, Tom. It will surely be more relaxing than being aboard the train wreck that is the Orioles for another season.

The seagulls might prove better at the plate than the Orioles did this year.
