    Yankees Are Total Feel-Good Story

    By Chris Mottram | September 27, 2007

If there was ever a come-from-behind, underdog story to root for it would be the 2007 Yankees. They’ve had to overcome so, so much to clinch a playoff birth. Whether it be a line-up littered with no-names, or a rotation with only four $10 million pitchers, or no consistent closer to speak of, it was a rough campaign. I’ll never understand how they did it.

I mean, it’s so easy for all the other teams to get to October. The Diamondbacks have Eric Byrnes and Jeff Cirillo! That’s just an unfair advantage. But the Yankees have to use small ball to scratch and claw their way to 15-13 victories. But that’s all Joe Torre. Never has a coach done so much with so little. He had good reason to cry over clinching a wild card spot. With all those awesome teams he coached before the Yankees, he only went to the playoffs once in 15 seasons. Then, all of a sudden, he comes to a shitty Yankee team with no resources, and miraculously takes them to 12 straight playoff appearances. I hope Cooperstown is watching.

So good luck Yanks. Keep being the little engine that could. Do it for the small guys. The underdogs. Keep showing the minimum wage worker that you don’t need money to achieve success. All you need is hard work to overcome.
