Everybody Want Clinton to Be a Pouter
By Chris Mottram | September 27, 2007
Clinton Portis was on the John Thompson Show here in the D.C. area Tuesday (as he is every week) and let’s just say my homeboy lost his temper a little bit. When questioned about not being in the game during the final, and unsuccessful, drive against the Giants on Sunday, CP’s ranting commenced. Just a small portion:
“When my number is not called, I’m not one to pout. Everybody want me to be a pouter. Everybody want me to be, ‘Oh give me the ball.’ They know I want the ball. Who don’t know Clinton Portis want the ball? What you think, I shy away? (Shouting) Why do you think I block? Why do you think I run downfield? Because I want to be a part of any play that’s called. If I didn’t want the ball, I wouldn’t be on the field. I wouldn’t, I wouldn’t go block when I don’t get the ball, I’d look around and pout. When they call my number, I respond.”
You can here the full mp3 of the interview here. It seems that Brian Mitchell is the one who really set him off, and I don’t blame Portis at all. B-Mitch is an aggravating, opinionated little bald man who surely rubs plenty of people the wrong way. He’s also been overly critical of Portis in the past. For a guy who was a better talker than he was a player, he gots a lot of nerve trying to put CP on blast.
Ultimately, I love when players get angry and show some emotion. Portis should be pissed off this week, just like we all are about the loss. Hopefully he can take that anger out on the Lions about 10 days from now and we can all forget about the implosion at FedEx.

I’m with you and Southeast Jerome on this, but the part about B-Mitch being “a better talker than he was a player” ain’t right. Dude was one of the finest post-Gibbs 1.0 players we’ve had.

He’s the best kick returner in the history of the league.

Every time Clinton Portis refers to himself in the third person, an angel has the best orgasm of its entire life.

Ah yes, the kick returner. The most important player on any successful team. I stand corrected.
The guy is an asshole, man.
