Skins Win: Interview With The 700 Level
By Jamie Mottram | September 20, 2007
This McNabb thing has taken on a life of its own. Case in point: FanHouse has a pro-McNabb piece as well as a con-McNabb piece. Even McNabb is blogging about it. And, somehow, my “racist thoughts” got illustrated over at Kissing Suzy Kolber.
While I respect (and agree with) McNabb’s opinion on the matter, this is a non-story. So let’s put it to bed. Also ready for bedtime is the ‘Skins Win’ series here on Mr. Irrelevant. This makes eight posts since Tuesday morning, and it’s a Q & A with top Philly blogger Enrico Campitelli from The 700 Level. For fans of schadenfreude, follow us after the jump.
Jamie: My brother and I are having a Skins bukkake of sorts on Mr. Irrelevant. Care to say a few words, Campitelli?
Enrico: I was slightly impressed with that QB of yours, specifically when the Eagles got some pressure on him. He found a way to make plays. Perhaps that is also a reflection of the talent he has around him. When it was time to step up and make something happen, the Skins got it done while the Eagles walked off the field admiring their own nice cleats.
Jamie: Two questions about the Eagles performance: 1) Are the WRs really that bad? 2) Where was the defensive pressure?
Enrico: I don’t know, man. I think we all have/had big expectations for Reggie Brown. I was never completely sold on Kevin Curtis and was unhappy with the decision to let Donte Stallworth bounce to the Pats. The Eagles seem to have a gaggle of number 2/3 receivers if you throw in Avant, Baskett, and company. Are they really that bad? In the first two games of ‘07, yes.
Defensive pressure? Where has Jim Johnson’s genius gone? Sigh.
Jamie: Is was hard to tell if Philly’s inept passing game was due to McNabb’s play or the WRs being covered or both, but McNabb’s knee is certainly not 100%. He even ran/limped to the sideline on that one scramble to the left side. What’s your take on his situation?
Enrico: I’m not putting the whole blame on McNabb. He’s coming of knee surgery for Sir Charles’ sake. Give him some time to get healthy. McNabb is not the problem here. And everyone who says Philly is calling for his head is misinformed. I’d look to Andy or the recivers for more of the blame than number five.
Jamie: If people who are misinformed, then who were the Philly fans booing last night? It seemed to be McNabb more than anyone.
Enrico: Please see this.
Jamie: I think this philosophy on booing only pertains to Philly, and I just don’t understand it. Follow me here … The Eagles made the playoffs last season (and six of the past seven seasons). Their only previous loss this season was a close one on the road against a possible playoff team. And last night’s game was close throughout. So why the hell were the fans booing as early as the first half?
Enrico: I just get sick and tired of everyone ripping on Philly fans for booing. I feel like we’re going in circles. We don’t boo because we think Donovan McNabb sucks and we want him benched for Kevin Kolb. We boo because he throws a ball 8 feet away from a wide open Kevin Curtis. It’s expressing disappointment. You have to make that play. If you don’t get it, that’s fine. Feel free to just start out your whole article with a quote about how we booed Santa… like 40+ years ago.
Jamie: But it’s not about booing at the end of the game when the outcome was all but decided. It’s about booing in the first half when your team’s not even losing. That’s the part I don’t get, and I’m not trying to be coy, hence no mention of Santa Claus or batteries or Michael Irvin or jail cells.
Enrico: Well, I wasn’t booing at all. I was more discouraged with the whole team than any one player.

Hey Guys, wake me when your Redskins’ post week is over or when the Skins beat a team with a winning record, no I mean a team with a win. I do like Campbell but that was some UGLY football on Monday night.

I’ll stop ripping on the Eagles for booing Santa, throwing batteries, Irvin, McNabb puking… as soon as people stop saying “Wide Right.”

Philadelphia’s fan kharma entitles people to bring up their past incidents for about, oh, another 482 years.
