Timmy Smith’s Other Historical Footnote

As Skins fans, we’re forever grateful to Timmy Smith for the 204 yards and two TD he gave us on January 31, 1988. He ran like Barry Sanders that day. You know, if Sanders ever played for a champion.
Since running downhill all over Denver, it’s been all downhill for Smith. Many folks are aware of his career flameout and subsequent cocaine arrest years later, but Football Outsiders presents a new, related claim to infamy: his ’88 season was one of the 10 worst by any NFL RB. Ever.
Hit the full list for fond remembrances of the most inept rushing seasons of all time, including ones posted by such luminaries of my early ’90s card collection as Reggie Cobb and Harold Green. Ex-Redskin Benny Malone’s ‘79 season also makes the cut, although I’d never heard of him as I was two when he retired, and he sucked to begin with, apparently.
While none of these bamas could carry the rock, Smith carried the Lombardi Trophy just fine. His ‘88 Topps RC remains a priceless piece, far superior to Jamie Morris’ ‘89 edition. And where’s that guy on this list anyway?

Just so we are clear. I am Benny Malone’s daughter. Let me guess you are one of those guys that never played football but watched it in envy and then since you have studied it carefully you can make judgements. Well guess what ASS everyone can’t be #1 at everything, but he managed to get drafted in the 2nd round and set many records still unbroken during his days at ASU. So, shut up. If you want to say that he didn’t make the cut so be it. Don’t bad mouth him you don’t even know him. I don’t see your name anywhere on the field or eevn mentioned–but here running it with nothing to say!
