O’s Finally Win With God on Their Side
By Chris Mottram | September 1, 2007
The Orioles had lost nine games in a row to the likes of Texas and Tampa, and had not won since Dave Trembley was named the manager 10 days ago. But alas, they managed to seal up a victory in Boston last night against the best team in baseball. There are only two explanations for this, as I had anticipated them losing every single one of their remaining games. First: Jesus Christ loves them more than he/she/it does the Red Sox:
Second reason they won: Dave Trembley wasn’t in the dugout. He was ejected in the fourth inning for arguing an obstruction non-call before the O’s took the lead:
“I went out there and started arguing with [third-base umpire] Eddie [Hickock], and I know it’s a subjective call,” [Trembley] said. “We were having a nice conversation and I said, ‘Hey, I know you’re not going to give me home plate there, but you’ve got to stand there and let me yell for a while. I’ve had a tough week.’ He said, ‘Go ahead.’”
Then the homeplate umpire said something bad to Trembley — probably about his moms or the fact that he looks like Shatner — and he got himself tossed. Maybe this is the spark they need to only finish the season 10 games under .500.
Update: Nevermind, god hates us.
