Jason Campbell Will Be Hurt All Season

    By Jamie Mottram | August 29, 2007

mottram-mri.jpgLet me tell you why starting the most important player on the Redskins roster in the team’s preseason finale is a bad idea: Jason Campbell has a bruised knee bone. Let me tell you something else: I have a bruised knee bone. And we happen to share the same doctor.

Yeah, my orthopedic specialist is also the team orthopedist for the Redskins. After looking at my MRI (pictured), he told me that I have a bruised knee bone which needs to be rested for months and, if I don’t rest it, the pain will linger and get worse.

Since then, I haven’t played basketball or tennis or gone running. The only thing I’ve done is play a bit of softball, and even that causes pain and ongoing discomfort, not so much during the action itself as immediately afterwards and for the days that follow.

So, whether Campbell plays tomorrow night or not, he’ll have soreness in that left knee all season long. Waiting until Game 1 against Miami on Sept. 9, however, affords him another two weeks of rest and rehabilitation that’s so sorely needed (get it?).

And if you don’t believe me, just ask former fantasy stud Domanick Davis Williams, who was diagnosed with a “knee bone bruise” last preseason and hasn’t played since.

All apologies for getting so Debbie Downer there for a minute. Go laugh at Clinton Portis’ latest quote concerning his own health.

Yeah, but we must consider the possibility that JC isn’t a pussy.

The Maj (who is no doubt a superior physical specimen) beat me to my joke.

But fo real, I doubt there are any players in the league who don’t play most of the season hurt on some level. He’s a man child, he’ll be okay. I hope.

There’s no doubt I’m a wee girl. That said, this is the first injury I’ve had (however minor it may be), and it sucks. It’s made me realize what these guys play through, which is something that fans don’t seem to consider all that often. I know I didn’t.

Let’s also not underestimate the healing power of injections and Ms. DC’s futuresex.

I broke my leg skiing back in elementary school but I barely missed a single game of foursquare.
