Cal Ripken Sees the Rangers 30 Runs, Raises Them Six Hits

    By Jamie Mottram | August 23, 2007

cal-ripken-is-god.jpgAs Texas desecrated the Baltimore bullpen for 24 runs in four innings, I was reminded of the O’s-Braves nationally telecast game from June of ‘99 when the Birds hung 22 on Atlanta. What’s most memorable from that game was the performance of one Calvin Edwin Ripken Jr., who, in the twilight of his career recorded a batting line for all time:

    6 AB, 6 H, 6 RBI, 6 R, 2 HR and 1 2B

Also notable from that contest: personal all-time fave Will Clark went 4-for-4 with 5 RBI and 3 2B. So this may have been my favorite baseball game ever, probably because I watched it from the comfort of the Dewey Beach house I was living in at the time with eight of my best friends from college, all of whom were drinking profusely. So, yeah, everything’s relative.

On 6 RBI for the Iron Man?

Make way for Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Cal. Make way.
