O’s Give Up 30 (Thirty!) Runs

    By Chris Mottram | August 22, 2007

Sweet irony. On the same day that Dave Trembley is announced as the Orioles manager for next season, they give up 30 runs to the Rangers on 29 hits. If you’re keeping track, that would be the most runs scored in a Major League game since 1900. But they did only give up six homers. Wait, that’s not good either. Nevermind, it’s a horrible night last 15 years to be an Orioles fan.

This screen grab that I took from Orioles.com in the ninth inning features two understatements of the century (”in a hole” and “seek rally”):

Rick Dempsey summed it up best in the post-game: “This is the worst game I’ve ever seen.” He’s seen nearly 1,800, and those are just the ones he participated in.

And this was the first game of the day-night doubleheader. The O’s bullpen (and I don’t need to see stats to tell you they’re no doubt the worst in the league) blew a 7-6 lead in the 8th to lose 9-7 in the nightcap.

Fortunately they only used 4 pitchers in the game. Unfortunately, Burress had an in game era of 121.50.

On the plus side, the Rangers have enough EA points to unlock old Arlington Stadium.

Yes, I know. Thanks for making it more painful.

A friend of mine didn’t know there was a doubleheader and he was hoping they were just showing the game again so he could watch the horror.

You just know the second game is going to end up 13-12 or something? What is it at now?

Looks like clutch Orioles pitching to me … 5 scoreless innings, and they got the Rangers to strand 19 runners.

Mother’s Day Massacre, Arods Walk off slam and Vlads Walk off HR were the top 3 lowlights of the O’s 2007 season. I did not think they could be topped. WOW. Crazy part is that somehow the Rangers pitcher gets the save because he pitched the last 3 games. The Os pen is about to blow the 2nd game.

The Rangers pitcher tossed the last 3 innings and gets the save.

While the cowardly Peter Angelo$ can never be punished enough for what he has done and tried to do to D.C. baseball this is absolutely wonderful.
