Phillies Fans: ‘John Lannan Must Die’

Many of you don’t know who John Lannan is, yet some of you want him dead. Allow me to explain …
Lannan made his Major League debut yesterday for the Nats at Philadelphia. He had 40 guests in attendance, including his father and mother, whom was caught on MASN’s broadcast crying after her son was ejected in the fifth inning of a one-run game for plunking Chase Utley and Ryan Howard on back-to-back pitches.

Unfortunately, the first errant pitch broke Utley’s hand, forcing him out of the lineup for 4-6 weeks. And, even though it was unintentional, a ‘John Lannan Must Die’ Facebook group has emerged with 38 members and counting. Sample quotes from its members:
Philadephia hates Lannan more than than we hate T.O.
next time he’s in town, bring the batteries and used needles..
WE NEEEED REVENGGE
Sounds like the Philly fans I know. And who’s to blame for this misguided hate mongering? The smart money is on Enrico Campitelli over at The 700 Level, who had choice words for the rookie southpaw last night. Of course, he’s from Philly, so it’s not his fault. They’re born that way.

Don Sutton was spot on in the broadcast. There is absolutely no way a rookie pitcher making his first ever start was trying to hit batters, but I wouldn’t suspect that Philly fans could comprehend such a basic concept.
I hope the teams do gets to rumblin’ because there’s no one on the Phillies who can handle Dmitri and Manny… not to mention Jon Rauch.

I’m not on facebook not have I ever lived in a rowhouse. All you DC’ers and your assumptions make yourselves look stupid. And the flood of moronic comments on the 700 level by Nats fans… they all coming from here? That’s my best guess.
I didn’t even know there was such a thing as a Nats fan.

Really? The comments on 700 Level are bad? I didn’t read them all, but I did particularly enjoy this one:
“I thought you philly fans were supposed to be the toughest bunch in sports. Or does the courage only extend to unattended vehicles with out-of-state tags and the unarmed mascots of other teams?”
And yeah, the team is building a new stadium to house all those Nats fans that apparently don’t exist. Genius.
