My Top 10 Desert Island Albums

I did this once in college and it took all night, claiming countless brain cells in the process. So when Brahsome came calling for my 10 desert island discs, I made sure to stop short after just five minutes.
Follow the link for the results, which aren’t nearly as hip-hop-laden as the Tribe cover art would lead you to believe.
Note: Bob Marley and Operation Ivy are the only artists to appear in both my college and current top 10.
Unwanted update: Chris has felt the need to post his top 10 desert island albums after the jump. It’s unhealthy how similar the brothers Mottram are.
Please keep in mind that I put this list together at work, without the aid of my iPod or CD collection, although I think I would end up with a similar list even with those luxuries:

I concur with your Exile on Main Street selection. My fave Stones album, following closly by Sticky Fingers.

Must have some Springsteen and Neil Young. I’d also include a Phish album, but that’s cause I’m one of those people.
Not a bad list though, I’d include a Wilco and Radiohead in a list of my own. I’m partial to A Ghost is Born or Kicking Television myself.

There was probably a Phish album on my college top 10. And if I’d listed honorable mentions, Neil Young would’ve been right there, brother.

Jamie, looks like you gotta lock Chris up in a room with headphones attached to his head, and nothing but tribe albums on repeat so it can makes his top 10 next time. And if forced to choose one Tribe album, I’d have to go Midnight Marauders.

Please believe that I loves me some Tribe, but my top 10 only has room for one hip-hop album, and I give the edge to the Roots.

Replace Wilco with “It Still Moves” by MMJ and you got yourself a hit list brother. I might consider taking Tribe off, and putting on “The Score” By The Fugees.

I’m so non-white I never even heard of most of those albums.
Best Tribe = Low End. You can’t give it to Marauders solely for that crappy Phife song. (Went to Carvel to get a milkshake…)
Best Roots = DYWM?!!??!. I suppose a live Roots album wouldn’t be the worst choice, but being from Philly I’ve been lucky enough to see them in concert about 30 times.
Best Rap Album = Nas – Illmatic. It’s really not even close.
Best Rap Album Most People Haven’t Heard Of = Kwest The Madd Lad – This is my first LP (‘96). It is so choice. If you have the means; I highly recommend picking one up.

I went with the live Roots because it’s a way of bending the rules. You can’t pick any compilations or greatest hits albums, but there is nothing outlawing live recordings. Plus, I think just about every song on Come Alive sounds better than the studio counterpart.
