George Mason Hoops Is About to Go Off

will-thomas-emotes.jpgIn their last four games, the Patriots have beaten Michael Beasley Kansas State, lost a close one to Villanova, beat South Carolina and, most recently, whooped CAA stablemate Drexel by 47. Yeah, they beat a decent team by 47. So maybe this week they’ll get at least one vote in the USA Today/ESPN Poll?

For perspective, Mason was the popular preseason pick to win their strong mid-major conference, they’re No. 2 in the Atlantic 11 — ahead of UVA and Maryland — and CAA authority Michael Litos sees them starting 15-1. That would turn some heads, but I’ll leave the predictions to others as I’m tired of cursing our favorite teams (see: Skins, see also: Caps and Wiz).

Either way, Jim Larranaga’s kids seem to be out of the Final Four-induced hangover that plagued them for most of last season and just might find themselves nationally ranked soon enough.

Update: My unreal jinx streak continues as Mason loses to East Carolina the day after this post was made.

D.C. sports fan and digital media guy that's been doing this since 2004. Once threw a football further than Chris Cooley.
