Mr. Irrelevant’s Annual D.C. Pro Sports Team Power Rankings

I’m not sure if this is actually an *annual* ranking of the five major D.C. pro sports teams, but it is a nice time of year to do such a thing.

As Tom Boswell so kindly points out, the past two Redskins seasons were the franchise’s worst since 1961. Incredible.

But! Short of Dan Snyder selling the team, the best possible thing that could happen just happened: They finally hired a real GM. And a highly regarded one to boot!

Of course, he has a drinking problem, and this is the Redskins. Our enthusiasm is curbed by hopelessness. Continue reading Mr. Irrelevant’s Annual D.C. Pro Sports Team Power Rankings

Weekend Preview: What To Watch

March is here, and college hoops is raging full blast, the Wiz are actually beating teams with winning records, and the Caps desperately need to gain ground in the Southeast Division. Below is a preview of what to watch, why, and the best place to watch it.

Friday March 1

New York Knicks at Washington Wizards (7 p.m.): This is a big one, not because the Wiz will make a playoff run or anything, but because it seems the young Wizards team gets fired up to play good competition and big-name franchises. Tonight is that chance. A good performance from John Wall would be great, especially after speculation that Wall was pouting on the bench during a retracted dagger loss to the Pistons Wednesday night. Best place to watch —  For this take your cheap ass to Verizon Center; you can probably get a deal on an upper level ticket and boo Carmelo in person. Also, please scream at the thousands of “New Yorkers” that actually live in Columbia, Md., and Woodbridge, Va., that will undoubtedly be in the building.

DMV: Amazing United Penalty Kick Video

I wouldn’t lead with a four-day old, three-minute D.C. United academy team video unless it was a good one. Stick with it and you’ll see that it is, even if it sort of seems like one of those fake viral video things. [FanHouse]
