Brian Orakpo Sticks With No. 98

The team’s shiny new toy, Brian Orakpo, was introduced to the media yesterday. He made sure to praise Dan Snyder, flash a little knowledge about the team (shout outs to Manley and Mann) and revealed that he played for the Redskins in high school. It was fate! He also showed us that he intends to stick with No. 98, which he wore at Texas.

Naturally, within hours of the press conference, our inboxes both received an email from the Redskins with a link to pre-order an Orakpo jersey. I think I’ll be holding off on that for now. Although if you happen to have been duped into buying a Jesse Armstead jersey a few years back, you can just cover up the name with duct tape and write “ORAKPO” on it in black Sharpie. It worked for converting Jamie’s No. 21 Smoot into a Taylor jersey.

For giggles, here are the other Skins to have worn 98:

That’s quite the legacy to live up to, Mr. Orakpo.

Former Managing Editor at UPROXX; former Senior Editor at @SBNation; former ska-zine editor, fan of bad sports teams and good beer.

I can’t believe the Skins aren’t offering a half priced Jason Taylor jersey as a bonus!

Jesse Armstead is on that list too. Is he giving it up for Orakpo?

I did feel a little bad for Orakpo during his post draft interview.

I personally hate the Cowboys and always have. But I’m not in a position where I am going to be forced to play for that team who also will pay me a ton of money. Growing up in Houston, I’m sure Orakpo hated the Skins and loved the Cowboys. I don’t blame him. That’s what he was supposed to do while living there. He did a great job of saying the right things but the interviewer forced him to (very uncomfortably) say how much he hates those teams now. I hate them too, but i kind of felt like this is where it stops being fun for some people. You cheer for one team your whole life and now you have to play for whoever drafts you. Maybe i’m just being a huge pussy. Oh well.

For the Smoot jersey, just duct tape MOO and leave S T on the back
