DMV: ‘Voice of the Redskins’ Is Retiring

Frank Herzog is reportedly retiring from WTOP, ending a career that saw him serve as the real “Voice of the Redskins” alongside Sonny Jurgensen and Sam Huff for 25 years. Those 25 years spanned the entirety of my youth and young manhood, and the guy did a helluva job. Sonny, Sam and Frank was a staple of every Redskins fan’s existence, and it’s understated to say it hasn’t been the same since Herzog left. [DCRTV]

  1. To me, Frank’s era harkens back to a time when you could actually turn on the radio, and it would be synched with the action on the TV. You know, so you could drown out the idiots, and listen to a trio who would actually have fun. Ah, the good old days (Ah, to be an old man in my 30’s).

  2. Watching that Herzog vid reminded me of another classic show. “Joe Thiesman’s Redskins Report, with George Michaels”. Worst theme music ever…

  3. So sorry to hear Mr. Herzog is retiring. Still miss him on “Skins broadcast. Couldn’t believe Larry took his place. (Larry bouth part of the station). Good luck Frank and Semper Fi!!

  4. I think all self respecting Skins fans turned the Tv volume down and put on Sonny Sam and Frank.

Lucky to have been able to grow up with guys like Brenner and Michaels and listening to guys like Herzog.

Its still awesome hearing his calls when they show classic Skins moments. “Touchdown, Washington Redskins.” is burned into my soul and still miss hearing when they Skins score.
